Forgive me for not giving any more of a description.. This is an updated version of dropline gnome with full support for slackware 10. Alot of people have tried DL with no problem on slack10, but had to use the force option. Myself, and a few of my colleagues did have difficulties in the installation procedure of slack 10 with the older dl.

thanks for responding.

I installed DL for the first time in a long while.. probably 6-7 months... I really like it as I always did.. and Evolution with the ximian connector is sweet! although I havent got to try it out with an exchange server yet :(

Do no forget to NOT install the packages that are in system software section in dropline installer.

why is that ?

Probably the Dropline installer will install some packages in the System software section which completely break your Slackware system when undoing the Dropline installation. I installed Dropline once to look at it and it resulted in a completely broken Slackware installation afterward.

why is that ?
Unlike swaret and slackpkg, dropline will upgrade all configuration files directly where swaret and slackpkg let *.new configuration files.

As an example : you decide to upgrade all packages (system software inclued), you will be out of luck :( as dropline will replace /etc/shadow file which contains all passwords for all users, root inclued in your system, you wan't be able to login in slackware after that.

slackMeUp 07-26-2004 09:31 PM

Dropline does not replace that file. . . I call BS.

Stop spreading FUD.

I have installed and uninstalled Dropline on both a 9.1 and 10 system. . . both had NO problems. . . no config files changed, no /etc/shadow changes. . .

Everything went fine.

If you don't like dropline then don't use it. If it caused you pain, then don't use it. And if it killed your system, file a bug report. . . but don't spread FUD. Remember that with all OSS software, YMMV.

Wich FUD ? I give an advice about the dropline-installer, it is up to the reader to decide to follow it or not.

Interesting, is it a game for you to install software and after that uninstall it?

If you don't like dropline then don't use it
For my part, I like dropline but just for install evolution package and a few others but no system packages.

And if it killed your system...
No chance for that, I take too much precautions

I'm running Dropline on one of my machines and have been through several upgrade cycles, but have never had any issues with the upgrade process affecting passwords. At least in my experience the upgrade process was pretty much smooth as silk. Are you saying that you did a Dropline upgrade and the result was that all users were locked out? If so, could there have been some other factor that played a role? Were you running an automatic upgrade or did you manually pick and choose the individual packages? Were there other tasks running at the same time which could have conflicted with the upgrade? This sounds like an aberration, and certainly if a Dropline upgrade routinely killed all the user PW's it would die a very swift death. -- J.W.

"Wich FUD ? I give an advice about the dropline-installer, it is up to the reader to decide to follow it or not."
Advice? You gave out what was interpreted as factual information. . . and that information was wrong.

"Interesting, is it a game for you to install software and after that uninstall it?"
I use Slack and Dropline. . . but that combination for some reason does not agree with one of my desktops. . . and then when Slack 10 came out, I tried it again. (But why do I have to explain myself to you?. . . )

"No chance for that, I take too much precautions"
Yah, you sound like the kind of guy that hides behind his post count.

Grow up.

Well, I think I am going to stick with Slackware 10 - Gnome releases. I have been using Dropline Gnome since Slackware 9.0, the nautils of DLG is kinda sensitive then. It works on some machine, but not that well on others. I don't know why. :)
But, DLG is a great "system" with Slackware.
