drivers installation


just a couple of questions
i´m trying to install my nvidia drivers but the installer throws an error saying that I should install my kernel source, so..

1- where should I install the source?
2- i must install the source of the kernel i´m using or can i put another one?

sorry for my ignorance

what distro are u using?

1. most distros have the source packed so you don't need to know where. You just need to install the package

2. Oh yes... You need the source of the kernel you are using

using current slackware
not sure what kernel i'm using either.. how may i found out?

just type "uname -r" w/out the quotes

kernel sources go in /usr/src and you must use the kernel source for the kernel you plan using your nvidia driver with.

ok thanx i'm currently running kernel 2.4.31
i've looked in slackware.org for that kernel source but couldnt find it
any clue where i can get it?

Hi

current stable kernel for slackware is 2.4.32, I would advise to upgrade, thats why your not finding it on slackware.org

upgrade the kernel, kernel headers, kernel modules and ofcourse kernel source.


dont forget to run lilo -v

okey .. i upgraded my kernel and have correctly installed my drivers.. now i have inet
