drivers for xf86 on Xorg

I am trying to configure my ati 9200 radeon with some drivers form their website, but I was wondering if they will not work with xorg since Slack 10 uses xorg instead of xf86.

I have had no luck with 9700 pro, and mobility 9200. ATI's drivers will just NOT work with me and the latest xorg... Good luck. Seriously.

fglrx will work with xorg 6.7 which comes with Slackware 10, however, xorg 6.8.x is not currently supported. (which is in CURRENT)

Failed

This morning I tried to install the latest drivers from ATI and it just reported a load of missing libraries, such as glibc etc etc. I am using Slackware 10.0. I am relatively new to Linux (have been playing with distros occasionally for the last few years) and have compiled things and installed things before. can you tell me what I need to download / install for me to be able to install the latest ATI drivers. Am sticking with this as I just got my wireless card working for the first time, so I may not be so dependant on Windows! Woot!

Cheers

Just in advance I recommend when you buy a new videocard to go with Nvidia, their installers work well and are fairly supported, as opposed to ATI, whereas you can always find posts where ATI has problems under Linux.

Thats not the plan..

I have installed Linux with Nvidia drivers before, and yes I found them simple and got em working with relative ease, but if everyone takes the attitude of just getting an Nvidia card, ATI might give up entirely!

Some support is better than no support, and I am sure that this will work, will just require some tweaks here and there.
