I would imagine just following the install instructions from the drivers itself. I don't know how ATI drivers are packaged, but if it is a binary, then you can simply run it as root and follow it's instructions.

If you are using Slackware, then you probably want to create a package first and install it the usual way. See the page at http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Slackware for details.

I also found the thread at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....4#post2866487 helpful.

I used this for drivers for my ATI AIW 9800 pro, it says it supports other cards and is the linux generic ATI driver ->http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/l...ux-radeon.html

thanks for the links.
The version of the latest driver is 8.3

Wiki says
If the downloaded driver version is less than 8.37.6, then you need to know from now that it will not work onto X.Org 7.2 server (or 1.3).

X -version says
X Window System Version 1.3.0

=\\
Maybe thats the reason why i couldn't install the drivers properly? =\

i just ran it through the normal install. launch from the command line as root, and it finishes as a GUI installer for drivers, reboot/restart xerver/x and it should be good to go

Ok, I installed th 8.3 drivers following these http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....4#post2866487
instructions.

The screen looks much better than it used to be but videos are in horrible quality.

glxgears return 3400 per 5sec;

chaves@arrakis:~$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.2)

fglrxinfo still says Mesa...Does it mean that my videocard is not set up properly?

xine-check says:
Your X server doesn't support YV12 overlays.
Your X server doesn't have any XVideo support.

and xvinfo returns
xvinfo
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
no adaptors present

However, if I change the fglrx driver to "radeon" driver in xorg.conf
I tend to get proper videos and normal xvinfo and xine-chack returns(which say that ati 9600 is working as adaptor)

The only problem with these is that i still get 3400 frames per 5 sec.

The ATI drivers have been renamed using the standard catalyst name scheme. It is actually 8.455...etc or something. If you followed that guide to installing the drivers the only thing I can think of is make sure you have this line added to your xorg.conf

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection

Good luck

You really should learn how to search and look at the sticked threads. For extensive discussion on how to properly enable 3D, check out http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...in-x11-402003/. You might try playing with aticonfig --overlay-type regarding the video problems.
