Driver for graphics card.

How would I go about finding the driver for my graphics card? Its usually auto detected and a driver is found for me, but with Slackware, it isn't. Here is the output of lspci:

Ok, Ill check that out, also, is this my card?
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

yup, what I can't tell is it an i815, i915, etc on board intel video

what model of computer is it?

Sadly I cant remember the exact model, but its an HP G72. Ill check HP's website for the model, if its needed.

would help determine which video chip it has if we had the exact model...

Oh wait, I think this might take longer than I expected. Right now I am using kernel 2.6, and the driver here:
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2012.02.html
was used with 3.2. Should I upgrade my kernel? Or can I use an earlier release?

Rasta420 03-21-2012 08:01 PM

install em and try, if they don't work uninstall em, you can ssh from another box to this machine? in case it goes south on you and you have to remote into it and fix something

Some guesses: Intel Series 5 chipset, integrated graphics, laptop. My conclusion: First series Core i3/5/7 in the mobile version. Should run out of the box in Slackware 13.37, but it may help to install the newer kernel/Mesa/libdrm from the /testing part of the repository.

dsplayer14 03-21-2012 08:12 PM

I cant find my model, and my processor is an i3, which hasent been validated by this driver, and isnt recognized by slackware.

TobiSGD 03-21-2012 08:17 PM

As staetd above, try it with installing at least the newer Mesa and libdrm from /testing, may be the newer kernel will also help.

dsplayer14 03-21-2012 08:29 PM

OK I got mesa and libdrm from /testing. Is getting the new kernel mandatory? I've always been hesitant when messing with the kernel.

TobiSGD 03-21-2012 08:44 PM

You can try it at first with Mesa/libdrm only. If that doesn't help a newer kernel may be what you need.

Something completely off topic, but I noticed you had the wmii WM in your signature. Do you use it as your default GUI?

TobiSGD 03-21-2012 09:16 PM

Yes, on all my machines, except the file-server, which runs headless.
