Dos killed my LILO
so I upgraded my Slack 7 machine to the new ver 8.1 after decided to use my two small dos partirions and install something my co-workers could handle like dos and maybe windows later, this is where I messed it up. I had the slack working just fine configured my new mouse in KDE and everything was smooth. I booted of a dos disk formated the dos partition and then installed the os dos 6.22, Now when I boot the machine it takes me straight into dos and dosen't ask me about booting to slackware or anything just straight Dos. I know I didn't kill the slackware because I can boot off of a floppy and everything is still there. How can I get back to my LILO loader short of doing a reinstall....

if you can boot slack off a floppy then do so and log in as root and type /sbin/lilo.

do not doubel post, you already promised not to when you agreed to the rules |
TYPED THAT AND NO CHANGE SAME THING HAPPENS boots to dos only, never even acts like the Linux partition is there. when I type that command it shows me that everything runs great linux is the active partition and dos is the second

Problem solved. I ran 'liloconfig' and told it to write the file to the MBR instead of the root even though it's not the safest place to store it I figured that dos might of overwritten it and that was the prob.
sorry chris I didn't realize it meant even in different forums. Matt W. |
