do you have a canon pixma ip1500 or a canon pixma mp620 hooked either directly by usb or to your router, on a slackware 14.0 box?
yes or no
if yes, did you have to download something or was everything you needed included in slackware as is?

in most cases, you only need cups (available on Slackware 14.0) and probably an official driver from canon and you are ready to go

myglide 04-18-2013 08:52 PM

do you have either one of these on your system?

I used an MP620 connected via USB to test CUPS throughout the devel cycle leading up to Slackware 14.0. It worked fine with the included gutenprint driver.

Thank you for the replies. when i hook the mp620 printer directly with usb cable all i had to do was add printer in cups and it works fine. when the mp620 is hooked to my

router i cannot get it to funtion. i can ping it and the system sees it and says its ready but when i sent a file or page to be printed it says the "printer is busy".

the ip1500 is not supported by canon usa, for linux. gutenprint 5.2.9 has removed support due to an unknown command format. user "allend" (see other thread for those details)

was able to find driver file in europe for the ip1500 and i got them installed but could not get the printer to function no matter how it was connected. but i am a linux noob

only 12 weeks of class time at this point.
