Display Problem

I have recently installed slackware and I'm having a problem getting the video to work.

I installed the latest nvidia drivers for my 5200FX card provided by nvidia.com. When I leave the vesa driver enabled in xorg.conf X will load. However when I change to nvidia driver then I get the Nvidia splash screen and then dumped into a fubar console. The only error message I can gather is "Caught signal 11". I have to reboot because the screen is unreadable after trying startx.

Anyone have any ideas what could be happening to prevent the nvidia driver from loading on 10.2 upgraded to current?

This is displayed on a 20inch sony crt tv.

Thanks in advance!

I'm running Slackware 10.2 with:
Code:
bruce@silas:~$ /sbin/lspci
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
bruce@silas:~$ lsmod
nvidia               4079824  12
bruce@silas:~$ glxgears -info
GL_MAX_VIEWPORT_DIMS=4096/4096
GL_RENDERER   = GeForce FX 5200/AGP/SSE2/3DNOW!
GL_VERSION    = 2.0.1 NVIDIA 81.74
GL_VENDOR     = NVIDIA Corporation
bruce@silas:~$ uname -a
Linux silas 2.6.13.4 #2 Wed Dec 7 09:15:57 CST 2005 i686 athlon-4 i386 GNU/Linux
bruce@silas:~$ less /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep nvidia
    Driver      "nvidia"
If you read "/var/log/nvidia-installer.log"
do you get any information that helps?
