Unhappy disk accidentally converted to GPT -what i can get back my data ?

Hello!
I have system with intel 965 chipset, slackware64 14.0

there i have also WD green 1 TB disk, divided two about the same size, primary ext4, if i rememner correctly ( if not - ext3) partitions with various my files - photos, videos, and so on.

that disk is too small, as so i purchased 3TB disk for swap. newly disk i plan to initialize as GPT disk, as so yesterday i make a little research about tools on my machhine for that - gdisk, cgdisk. i remember, one of that utils write "your partition on /dev/sdc ( my 1 TB disk) is converted to GPT, bla-bla-bla, but i sure, i do not "write command, as so i sure, it is not write to the actual disk. today i purchase 3 tb, swap, connect old 1 TB via USB to copy data from old to new, and found - kernel on device found says "unknown partition" on old, 1TB disk.
do a cfdisk /dev/sdd ( old disk), and see - there is writed "sdd1", primary, and "GPT" :-O

try mount /dev/sdd1 / sdd2, but mount says that not exist :-O
there is any way to get back my data?
and why that GPT utils convert and save state without question? ( i do not sure, but imho it is cgdisk, who done that "wonderful" situation).

Thanks in advice...

Use this, it saved me a couple of times.

PS: It's called Photorec but it recovers everything, really.

-started interactive mode, found my both MBR partition, prompt for write it to disk.
now all looks ok, copying data to new disk!

Thank you very much!
