Which university? I have updated to 4.4.29 from U of Waterloo.

This link: ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/sla...ckware64-14.2/

Worked like a charm.

Pick a different mirror. You have an outdated mirror. I use this mirror for Slackware64-current.

http://ftp.osuosl.org/.2/slackware/slackware64-current/

It could also be that your slackpkg has the kernels blacklisted. Check your /etc/slackpkg/blacklist file to see if they are.

Well its not the Waterloo one for sure but I can try later, just a question does it matter if I have my mirror set for the stable updates and not current? Is that why I'm not getting kernel 4.4.29, I would think that an important update such as this would be released to both stable and current mirror, or em I wrong?

Stable does have the 4.4.29 kernel. See, for example, the Waterloo mirror:

ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/sla.../linux-4.4.29/

As the others have said, either your mirror is not up-to-date or you have the kernel blacklisted in slackpkg.

I found the mirror I'm using, it's this one
ftp://mirror.its.dal.ca/slackware/sl.../linux-4.4.29/
According to the folder for 4.4.29 is was created on Nov 1 2016, I tried yesterday and did not get this update and I don't believe the kernel is blacklisted as not long ago I updated from 4.4.14 to 4.4.19 using the mentioned mirror, I'm not in front of my box but I can see if somehow its blacklisted and try another mirror later today. Just curious if someone knows which mirror get the stable updates first?

You might want to try Oregon State University at http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/...ches/packages/ for Slackware 64 14.2 or http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwar...ches/packages/ for Slackware 32.

Note that there are a slew of security updates as well as the kernel updates found in Linux-4-4-29 in the ..../patches/packages directories (64-bit and 32-bit).

Hope this helps some.

osuosl is probably one of the first mirrors updated. You can't go wrong using that one

Just out of curiosity, why does osuosl get updated first? is it Pat special one, the chosen one?

I don't know for sure. I've just found that it tends to always be in sync with the latest pushes from Pat. Maybe he updates that and it branches out to others, or maybe OSUOSL is just on top of their rsync game.

That being said, I tend to not use them because their speeds out to Virginia aren't as fast as some closer mirrors. I can sacrifice a slight delay in updates for faster download speeds. But if a mirror is consistently out of date by more than a day, I probably wouldn't be as likely to always use them.

If you're curious about what mirrors as fastest, you can check out my Slackware mirror speedtest script.

Thanks to the friendly folks at the OSU Open Source Lab
