My end goal is to learn how to get Samba working on a Slack machine on a domain with active directory. Right now, I'm trying to learn the basics of configuration and am using my home network for the test.
My /etc/samba/smb.conf file reads as follows in its entirety:
Code:
[global]
workgroup = MSHOME
netbios name = Slacker
security = SHARE
[shared]
comment = Shared directory
path = /home/sambashare/shared
force user = sambashare
force group = users
read only = No
guest ok = Yes
[wwwroot]
comment = WWW Root Directories
path = /home/sambashare/wwwroot
force user = sambashare
force group = users
read only = No
guest ok = Yes
This is copied directly from a post in a thread dealing with different issues.
I CAN see the "Samba 3.0.14a (Slacker)" in my network places as well as a "shared" and "wwwroot" folder when I explore my network but I get an error reading "\\Slacker\shared is not accessible. ....blah blah may not have permissions... blah blah contact your administrator."
The system I'm trying access the samba server with is running Windows XP Pro with SP2. I'm familiar with Windows and NT credentials but not with how to pass those credentials to a Linux machine. Besides, I thought the "security = SHARE" line removed the need for user accounts.
Anyhow, please help!
EDIT: I should have mentioned that my home network is a simple workgroup named MSHOME.
