Smile dhcpd on eth1

Help! I am trying to build a router, where eth0 goes to the internet and get its ip from the cable modem. Eth1 goes to the internal network, where I want to be able to use DHCPD for the ip's. In rc.inet1.conf:

# Config information for eth0:
IPADDR[0]=""
NETMASK[0]=""
USE_DHCP[0]="yes"
DHCP_HOSTNAME[0]=""

# Config information for eth1:
IPADDR[1]="192.168.2.1"
NETMASK[1]="255.255.255.0"
USE_DHCP[1]=""
DHCP_HOSTNAME[1]=""

is there something else that I need to add to get dchp working on eth1?

Thanks for the help.

Tom

Yes, you need to setup a proper /etc/dhcpd.conf file and run the dhcpd daemon of course.

Tom,

If you have problems eth0 is sometimes becoming eth1 and vice-versa
you should look in /etc/udev/rules.d/75-network-devices.rules

Here you can link a MAC address (= card) to eth0 or eth1.

To get an updated 75-network-devices.rules file, delete (or rename) the current one and reboot. Than modify the file how you want the cards to be assigned to eth0 or eth1.

That filename has changed in -current -- see CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT.

Why delete it? Why not just modify the existing one?
