Well gusy I love my slack install and it works great when connected to my ethernet while at home. However whenever I am not connected and try to boot DHCPCD echos the ip of my ethernet NIC and I think it is trying to get a IP from a dhcp server.
Is there anyway to tell it not to start unless eth0 is connected?
If this is a problem often, just set your NIC to use a static IP, and then you could write a script run by rc.local to bring your nic up, check it's media state, and then dhcp.
Or if it's not being used as a server, just run the dhcpcd yourself when you log in.
I had the same problem. Look at my post here, and the solution was here.
You'll have to download/install/set executable on a few things, but it works GREAT!
Great I installed the scripts and it seems to be working great, now do I have to edit anything in ifplugd.sh or the other .sh?
What I did was make backup of the rc.inet1, rc.inet1.conf, rc.wireless, and rc.wireless.conf then placed them in a folder. Next I downloaded the new rc scripts installed them. Next I uncommented SCRIPT[0] for iface eth0 and added the SCRIPT[1]line for eth1. Finally did chmod a+x for the new rc files and .sh files.
