/dev looses changes after boot

i've upgraded to 2.6.1 kernel, its running ok but the ALSA configuration is driving me nuts.
After a couple kernel compilations and the sound not working i decided to take alsa from the kernel, and install the drivers manually. It worked, finally i had sound, but when i restart i don't have the any active mixer, must run snddevices again in order to detect my settings, and after every boot my settings are gone, whats happening?

also, i tried to do a simlink mouse -> psaux, once i reboot the link aint there.

is this suppose to happen?

thanks for your help

Regarding ALSA, did you run (as root):

alsaconf
alsamixer
alsactl store
<<<<----needed to save your settings

As for the mouse...what exactly did you type? And what does your mouse section in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file look like? Maybe we can help you out.

even after doing those steps alsa remains the same, no active mixer when i boot

as for the mouse i did ln -s psaux mouse in /dev, but after a restart that link is gone!
i changed my XF86Config so the mouse device points to psaux so no problems there, but when i boot, the gdm(?) looks in /dev/mouse and it says /dev/mouse don't exist

thanks for trying to help

you are running devfs on your system. the /dev contents do not actually exist, they are automatically created by a daemon on boot. it's configuration file is typically /etc/devfsd.conf. if you wish to make permanent changes, you need to alter that file.
