I've got a Dell Optiplex 780 equipped with a Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5722 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (I think it's the same series). Works just fine out-of-the-box with Slackware 13.1 64-bit -- but with fixed-IP on the box.
Just for grins, have you tried running netconfig, choosing fixed-IP, give your box a name and domain, a fixed-IP address (like 192.168.1.10 or 192.168.0.10), gateway address (like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, depending on your router), a mask of 255.255.255.0 and a "real" DNS server address (provided by your ISP or a public DNS server near you)? If you do choose to give this a try, it's probably quicker and easier to simply reboot the box to restart everything (and if you go back to DHCP, just reboot the thing and get back in business).
If you don't have lshw, you can get it from SlackBuilds.org; handy tool.
