deleted contents of /tmp

Hi all, I accidentally deleted the contents of the /temp directory on my normal user account and things started going slowly, got some errors too. When i came out of KDE and tried to load it up again the splash screen gets to the loading peripherals part then returns me to the CLI. KDE still loads using the root account though. Any ideas on how i can fix this problem?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

AFAIK, there is nothing mission critical in /tmp. However, do NOT delete anything in there while the system is running, or you will experience what you have just experienced. Just reboot and it should be fine. Technically you can even clear the /tmp directory on boot or shutdown. So you can clear it if you want.

Actually, there are 2 critical directories in /tmp .

They are .ICE.unix and .X11.unix

These two directories must also be owned by root:root with chmod 1777. Just recreate them, no need to reboot the system.
