Default permission for /home folder?

/home folder permissions got screwed up I think, it is showing with a green highlighted in ther terminal like the tmp folder and permissions are reading as "drwsrwsrwt". How can I reset it back?

Probably it is not the only one screwed up. As said in your other thread, reinstall from scratch. Do _not_ copy an already screwed up directory like /home,but let the system re-create it using "adduser" to re-create your regular user account, then _selectively_ copy _one_by_one_ the files you want to keep from the old (defective) drive to the new one. Not following this advice you would lose your time.

well oddly enough, that weird permission only appeared when using a livecd. I am booted into the system now and the home folder looks normal and has permission drwxr-xr-x which is same as all other folders...so it seems right. Reinstalling is not an option right now mostly due to time restraits....I have a lot of stuff from Slackbuilds I would need to re-install/configure.

If you were using a live CD are you absolutely sure you were looking at the /home that resides on your hard disk and not the live CD's /home?

It is also possible that the live CD changes the mount permissions to enable anyone to read the file contents.

You should consider saving any packages you build and creating a mirror on your LAN that you can use with slackpkg+ to easily reinstall them. Also backup your /etc, /home and anything else that has value to this mirror. You will save yourself a lot of time by doing this. Then you can mess around with your system and have no need to worry.
