dd floppy image to samba share

Is it possible to write a floppy image that resides on my slackware machine to a floppy drive(a:\) shared on a windows machine?

I shared the floppy drive on a xp machine then mounted under /mnt/a
then I tried:

Code:
dd if=/install.1 of=/mnt/a
which produced:

Code:
dd: opening `/mnt/a': Is a directory
yes, yes it is...

Ok so how can I accomplish this?

The reason for it is I have no floppy in my slack machine and I could
not get rawrite,rawrite2,rawrite3 to work at all.

I'm not sure if this would apply to your situation, but when you dd, I thought that you had to specify the device directly. Such as /dev/fd0 instead of /media/floppy.

Well, that command wouldn't work even if the floppy was local ... do 'man dd' for usage or something like:

Code:
dd if=[image file name] of=/dev/fd0

ok cool I'll just find another machine to make the floppies with...
thanks

I have used dd like this:

Code:
dd if=someimage of=/dev/fd0
but since I don't have a floppy drive in my slack machine I was trying to determine if it was possible to use dd with a samba mounted floppy from an xp machine...I did check "man dd" already and I couldn't see anything pertaining to whether or not this is possible. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

One thing I was curious about though does it have something to do with the fact that /dev/fd0 is a block device?
