cvs doesn't work on slackware?

I have this problem:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=256726

and after talking with a few people I discovered that this seems to be a problem on slackware only, people with other distros don't have it.

You can test it by doing:

cvs -d :ext:aname@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/afolder checkout amodule

you should receive error messages from server, if you do then all works.
But if you don't then you have my same problem.
