custom cursor change for fluxbox

I've been trying to get a lefty cursor for my fluxbox boxen, and while reading the doc's they advise to edit:

~/.fluxbox/startup

# Your favourite mouse cursor:
# xsetroot -cursor_name right_ptr

Does this still apply? I thought xsetroot was depracated and eterm was needed now.

I'd like to use the blue left crystal cursor
buildscript I used is here:

Usually you just put the theme folder in '~/.icons', then it should be listed in '~/.icons/default/index.theme'. For example, mine is:
Code:
[Icon Theme]
Inherits = 2fbw2
Where '2fbw2' is the name of the theme folder (directory).

Hi Tex

Yes I had been trying that, and it repeatedly says

"xsetroot: can't open file: -crystalblue"

the crystalblue is how the name is shown in the theme file.

I have the cursors in /usr/share/icons

I also copied them over to ~/.icons

I even copied them to ~/.fluxbox/icons

I guess my greater question is, does this feature work in fluxbox, or am I off on a wild goose chase becuase I thought using xsetroot was deprecated in fluxbox. Can you do it on your Slack 12 box?

To install new cursors I don't need to run 'xsetroot'. I just extract the theme into '~/.icons', say the directory is '~/.icons/crystalblue'. Then I make sure '~/.icons/default/index.theme' says:

Code:
[Icon Theme]
Inherits = crystalblue
It works fine in Slackware 11.0 and 12.0.

I compiled and installed the source code package with the mentioned cursors in my $HOME in this way (make a backup of your .icons/default/index.theme):

Code:
tar xvf downloads/crystalcursors_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz
cd Cr TAB
make
make install
./choose.sh
After restarting fluxbox there was the new shining blue cursor.

Thank you for the tips,

Fluxx.
