Creating MD5 / SHA / SSHA digests from command line?

Just a quick question.. is there a command line tool that takes a string for input, applies a specified hash algorithm, and prints the digest? Thanks!

pu@slackw:~$ echo Hello | md5sum
09f7e02f1290be211da707a266f153b3 -

pu@slackw:~$ echo Hello | sha1sum
