I only seem to have one graphics device specified and I donīt specify the amout of video ram

Section "Device"

# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection
Maby if you get rid of your standard device it will work?? I am afraid its only an idea. Also it looks like you can specify which driver it uses when you load x ... maby like startx nvidia/vga I am not sure.

make sure that you have all the specs for your equipment and run xorgconfig again and see if that helps. Also, make sure that nvidia was installed right. try running the installer again. At this point it seems like trial and error anyhow.

OK problem solved...

/proc/driver/nvidia/card says that my card (gf4mx):
FW not supported
SBA supported

/proc/driver/nvidia/host-bridge say that my chipset (kt266a):
FW supported
SBA not supported

the conclusion is: disable FastWrite and SideBandAddressing option on BIOS (if exist)

now the time for next problem:
