hi
every time i upgrade KDE to newer version i got this problem in slackware 11 and 12 the usage before was between 20-40 , now after upgrading kde to 3.5.8 its between 98-100 my PC in Intel Pentium 4 2.40 GHz RAM 512 DDRAM my swap 2894 my hardisk 80 GB thank you. |
You should run "top" to find out which process is being CPU hungry and give us more information.

You should have used the code tag around that block to make it readable. In any case, it's obvious there is some problem with HAL, udev, etc. You should restart those services, see if you have anything in the log files from /var/log (probably yes) and check if you have updated the appropriate udev rule files, as well as removed old rules files if needed.

What packages did you upgrade?
|
thanks r3g ,but i didn't know what i m looking for in var/log/
Alien_Hominid i m using swaret i did upgrade all KDE packages. |
hi again
i looked in /var/log and i found this in message : kernel: Intel ISA PCIC probe: not found. so i did pico /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia and change DRIVER=probe to DRIVER=yenta_socket i don't know if that right but, after i change it and reboot the cpu usage changed to 46% that seem fixed my problem thanks again rg3 also thanks for Alien_Hominid any every one tried to help. |
46% is still a lot. An idle KDE desktop shouldn't take more than 1% of CPU time, normally. You are looking for any error lines that may be related to modules, hal, udev, devices... Again, I recommend you to take a look at the rules files. You definitely broke something during the upgrade, or hit a bug that you should probably report after you find out what's happening.
