Couple problems with Slackware

Just installed it. Great distro. Few problems though.

1. Scroll Wheel mouse won't work. I tried adding a Axis line to xorg.conf. Xorg didn't like it.

2. Firefox won't install. The console returns:

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
Thanks

What exactly did you add to xorg.conf, it should be
Code:
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
.
Trying to run firefox as root when X has been started from a normal user account can cause your other problem

For some reason, I had to change
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"

to

Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"

I have a Logitech Cordless Mouse.

Dependant on which ms mouse you use you will need to set the protocol, for example I have a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical and had to change
Code:
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
to
Code:
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"

    Identifier	"Mouse1"
    Driver	"mouse"
    Option "Buttons" "5"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"

1. As suggested above you've to setup properly the Protocol, Button and ZAxisMapping options. You can find more information here: http://www.x.org/X11R6.8.2/doc/mouse.html

2. It seems it's a graphical installer, try running it inside X.
