could not open default font 'fixed' error with Slackware 12.0

The power went out the other day and upon rebooting my computer I found that the X server was failing with the error

Code:
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
giving up.
I figured something got corrupted from the power outage so I just reinstalled all the packages in the 'x' directory of the install DVD. This did not work, and I'm not sure where to go from here.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt

You should try fsck'ing your drive. See `man fsck` for details. You should boot with the DVD, make sure your partition is NOT mounted, and fsck the drive -- and hopefully everything will be OK.

Try (as root):
Code:
cd /usr/share/fonts/misc
mkfontscale .
mkfontdir -e /usr/share/fonts/encodings -e /usr/share/fonts/encodings/large .
/usr/bin/fc-cache -f
