Could mine be the only printer that won't work??

Well I've bee reading posts and trying stuff for the past few days with my printer to get it to work in slackware. I've installed the latest CUPS and other software, and nothing seems to work. It is picked up when I boot...

Code:
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP]
parport0: irq 7 detected
parport0: faking semi-colon
parport0: Printer, HEWLETT-PACKARD DESKJET 710C
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
I can't seem to configure it at all. Come to think of it I'm not sure if I have ever gotten it to work in Linux. It seems when I look for the support for it, I see the 600 series of printers from HP and the 800 series but nothing in the 700 series of printers. Also, it detects a 710 series....when I have a 712C series. Not sure where to go from here.

Apparently CUPS has left out the entire 7xx series. The 712C is just a 710C series style printer. I have CUPS 1.1.15 and lists a HP New Deskjet series down near the bottom of the list. You may want to try that driver. It doesn't supply any model number though. If your printer specifically states "Windows" on the label then it might not work. I have seen the 8xxC series with a driver listed and it wouldn't do anything with the printer of that model number. The printer however, had an extra "xi" or something after the "C" and it stated "Windows" on the label. So I suspect HP has manufactured some units that were special Windows Only printers.

My scanner was a win scanner, I thought the printer was a win printer too...but I could be wrong...just my luck that it would be though ;-) I'll have a look at that page, though I know I've been there before. Thanks.
