console/fbcommand wont open in fluxbox

Hi all- this problem is on #2 in my sig

Running fluxbox and have dropline-gnome installed, i like to use gnome-terminal. However after tweaking some stuff in my fluxbox style, and gkrellm2 theme I can not seem to do anything in fluxbox anymore...

When I try to run gnome-terminal it does not open, I get an error, that does not show until I exit flux:
<ed-snip>
I tried cat'ing this error into a file but afraid I didn't get much useful information.

<ed-later, got better, the full error is below, from when I try gnome-terminal in fluxbox>
Code:
The program 'gnome-terminal' received an X Window System error.

This probably reflects a bug in the program.

The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
(Details: serial 993 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive
the error a while after causing it.;    To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line;
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful; backtrace from your debugger if you
break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

xscreensaver: 13:36:01: running as perry/users (1000/100)
will keep trying and post more, as I get better

any ideas?

also I try to run the fluxbox command and it also fails to work, though I don't see any error when I exit fluxbox.

I can so far run firefox, but gedit seems to work, but can not seem to save changes to files. ???

I had thought the last thing I did was to add gkrellm to the slitlist and change startup to gkrellm -w &, but I have since removed gkrellm completely (from flux startup), and still I get the same error.

One other thing I did was to add my USB drive to gkrellm, but I wouldn't think thats still the problem since its not running?

also seems to be some problem with nautilus too?

*wierd thing* this machine fails to get into the lilo screen if a usb stick is plugged in. never noticed that before, and not sure if any of this is related, i'm pretty much dumbfounded.

gkrellm theme must be irrelevant, in that case we're left with the tweak to the fluxbox style. So you can start with witching to a different style (a syntax error in the style file shouldn't cause application crashes, but who knows...).

Hiya Ilgar!

I think when we last spoke I promised to go off and break something else.. well at least I'm a man of my word

yeah, I tried that.

Switched to a couple of the 'stock' fluxbox styles, also double and triple checked my own for syntax errors, didn't find anything.

Then I was left to the USB thing, so I tried commenting out my:

/dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb

line in fstab, still no luck.

then I thought: maybe I was in the /mnt/usb directory when I shutdown gnome-terminal last? (no idea why that should matter)

so I plugged the usb stick in and re-tried it, still not any different.

also, rxvt still seems to work.

I'm wondering if somehow I screwed up some gnome thing? Because other progs seem to be doing ok, but the two gnome things I do use regularly (gedit and gnome-terminal) are either acting screwy or not working..

I'm stuck on what to look for next.

so I bump this with a bit of new information...

I did it again... to machine #1 in my sig. Similar setup, have dropline installed but use only fluxbox.

I was screwing around with some theme files and can not get:

rootCommand: wmsetbg ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/myBkgrnd.jpg

to work, so I thought, well maybe its that pesky .fluxbox/init file screwing things up, so I commented out the !rootCommand: in my init file, restart flux and whamo - gnome-terminal is dead.

now can anyone plllleeease tell me how to fix it? I went back and looked at the init file but the commented line has been changed back to uncommented. ??

ko.. i'm stupid. it is working now
