Connection Sharing

i have two computers. one running slack and the other running WinXP.
i was thinking of setting up a network and allow the WinXP computer to get on the internet. the computer running slack has two network interfaces. i am going to connect my high speed connection to the first interface, and use firestarter to basically do the routing.

my only question is do i need to do something on the WinXP computer to have this run smoothly. if i set up NAT on the compuer running slack, do i have to setup XP to Obtain IP Address Dynamically, or do i just assign an ip address to the machine.
also, i'm not gonna use a hub or a router. my high speed cable will go into one interface on the slack box and from the second interface, another ethernet cable will connect to the computer running XP. is this gonna work and do i have to do something specific to each computer to have this come out ok.

PS. i'm sorry if i posted on the wrong board.

there are two ways of configuring your windows XP.

Assigning IPs statically: Be sure to setup the network correctly and use the slackware PC as gateway and DNS server.

Assigning IPs dynamically: Use a dhcp-server on the slackware pc so that the windows xp box gets its IP from it. However then you have to start the slackware box before your windows box.

thanks for the info..... that's what i thought, just wanted to make sure i wasn't overlooking something

also, as far as the bandwidth going from slack to xp goes, is there a slight decrease and if have any idea, by how much ? or is the decrease just not too noticeable
