Connection

Dell Inspiron 4100, slackware 10.2, dialup.

Downloads are intermittent, they show as coming in chunks on gkrellm, makes for slow browsing and downloading.
I had Mandriva 2006 on this machine for two days, discovered that if I turn off acpi, downloads are as good as on my PC.
Tried it with slackware, makes no difference. Also tried turning off apm, no difference there either.

On slackware I put append="acpi=off apm=off" in /etc/lilo.conf just above read-only.

This machine did the same thing with adsl, I have access every month or so.

Ideas, anyone?

Commented out /sbin/modprobe apm
in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules -
now downloads and browses as it should.
