Confused w APM

I am trying to get the APM features (suspend, power management, etc) working on my ThinkPad T20. I have Slack 10.2.

In user/bin, I have apm, and apmsleep. This leads me to believe that APM is installed. What else do I need to do? Do I need to excplicitly disable APCI (or whatever the otherone's called)? Do I need to recompile the kernal for APM support?

Also, other than suspend and battery monitor, what are the other features of having APM working? Thanks.

try "modprobe apm". See if it works the way you want after that. If so you would want to add it to your boot process. The method would depend on which kernel you are using.

That worked great!! Except one major problem...

When I resume, it shows a black screen with an icon of a lock in the top left corner. It gives me 3 tries to type in a password. On the 3rd wrong guess, it kicks you back out to suspend mode. I've tried the root password, the password of the user I was loggin in as etc. None of them work. HELP!!

ps. I cannot switch to a new tty either.

Fixed it. It was IBM PoP (power on password). I get rid of it by pulling the battery, puling cmos battery, booting up on AC power (erroring in POST of course) reinstalled and rebooted, set sys time in BIOS and called it a day.
