configuring rt61 wireless in rc.inet1

I have my rt61 wireless module working but I can't figure out the
damned rc.inet1.conf file. I went in and chenged it the best I could
figure out but it doesn't come up with an address. I am not using
dhcp. I am trying to connect 2 computers using static ip addresses.

here's what I have in rc.inet1.conf:

IFNAME[0]="wlan0"
IPADDR[0]="192.168.0.1"
NETMASK[0]="255.255.255.0"
WLAN_ESSID[0]=widgeteye
WLAN_MODE[0]=adhoc
WLAN_RATE[0]="54M auto"
WLAN_CHANNEL[0]="4"
USE_DHCP[0]="no"

ifconfig shows me this:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:4C:39:09:F4
inet addr:75.111.**.** Bcast:75.111.84.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:418015 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:7539 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:30090299 (28.6 Mb) TX bytes:932426 (910.5 Kb)
Interrupt:11 Base address:0xe000

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:28 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:28 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:2324 (2.2 Kb) TX bytes:2324 (2.2 Kb)

ra0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:A1:B4:F7:6F
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:7997 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:131 errors:1 dropped:1 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:15 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:1835122 (1.7 Mb) TX bytes:2184 (2.1 Kb)
Interrupt:10

Can someone help me out? Is IFNAME[0] causing a conflict with ETH[0]?

I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thanks

Answering my own post.

never mind I did it the old fashioned way, I made a file called rc.wire
and put the following in it.

echo "setting up wireless"

IPADDR="192.168.0.1"
NETMASK="255.255.255.0"

/sbin/ifconfig ra0 ${IPADDR} netmask ${NETMASK}

Thanks anyway.

Hi Widgeteye,

if you change IFNAME[0] in rc.inet1.conf to "ra0" it should work without you custom script.

Regards,
lemmy
