Configure ssh tunnel on slackware 12

Hi,
With PPTP being so easy to hack I've been trying to get a ssh tunnel to run on Slack12.
Executing:
ssh -w 0:0 <external ip>
results in it logging in on the other side but no tun devices show up.
There is a /dev/net/tun, but running ifconfig does not reveal it.
lsmod shows tun.

One possible issue is that sshd_conf does not allow 'PermitTunnel yes'. Unless that's no longer used.

BTW, should the above tunnel route both ways as far as ssh is concerned?

Try ifconfig -a
Maybe tun was not brought up yet...
