.config file for new kernel

Hello,

I've been pouring over DaOne's Kernerl rebuild post(s) and experimenting with
rebuilding my kernel. The first attempt was good, i was able to reduce the size
of the Kernel and everything seemed to work just the same. The second rebuild
reduced kernel size more, but wouldn't boot.

Anyways, now I realize that I am going to need to be very methodical in how
I go about rebuilding my kernel. I would like to get the original .config file for
the bare.i kernel that I loaded during setup, but have deleted it (I don't have
.config.old either). Is there an easy way to get this file?

The only way that I can think of doing it is to run setup off the slackware disks
again so that I can reinstall the kernel. I would rather not do this though, because
I think that I might have to reinstall packages and I updated my system with swaret
already.

thanks to all,

plan9

Depending on how you have been doing your kernel upgrades, you may have a copy of your original .config file in /boot/config-2.4.24 (or something, I don't remeber anymore). Check out the /boot folder and see what you've got.

for the 2.4.22 kernel, the config file is here. If you have the CDs, i think you can also find it in the kernels directory.
