computer is louder under Slack14

Hey guys, I just updated from 1337 to 14 last night and after first boot the computer is louder than usual. I can't really tell if it's the drive or a fan or what, but it's a normal sound that I usually hear during boot as everything is chugging away a little harder then, but it usually quietens down and the computer is nearly silent after boot. It starts at boot and doesn't stop until shutdown. Boot to leet or windows and it's silent, back to 14 and it's whirring. It's just a whir, not a disk write sound.

top doesn't reveal anything, X is using 0.7 mem and 4% cpu and a couple things are using less, everything else is 0%. ps aux looks normal, free -m shows I'm only using about 3gigs of my 8 gig ram. So it doesn't see to be working harder than normal.

It's a quad core i7, cpuinfo recognizes it as such (so it's obviously not using only one processor or something).

Any ideas where else to look?

Do you have the power-saving for your CPU set to ondemand or is it still using the default userspace option?

Wait, nevermind. The instant I hit "post" I remembered that I had AMD catalyst installed under slack 13. I installed it and everything quieted down. I guess the graphics were working harder and keeping the fan on. Now I feel dumb, but if I hadn't asked it never would have dawned on me.
