well if lets say 14 people to to it then every body gets 1 folder. (the KDE folder takes the longest) Then they all share it. It might take 2 days max to finish the folder. Upload it to a site and install it. Assuming that they all compile correctly and they flags work with every machine. Its really not that hard, i made 139 packages and im running fine.

Well, I've tried again...
My error1 is here
Anyone knows what the problem is?
I've compiled fontconfig & freetype before compiling X.

Thanks.

You may want to try this: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/233594

and/or this: http://lists.freedesktop.org/piperma...il/007295.html

Why don't you use the original Slackware buildscripts? It will save you a lot of time and trouble, I guess, if you want to recompile it just to gain some speed. The original script will create the needed symlink automatically for you and take care of other issues, too, like individual configure or compile options.

I tried XFCE, it looks nice, but I am back with KDE, mainly because I can't get my side buttons and wheel to work in XFCE, since the xinitrc file is different, and I don't know if I can simply add this to the XFCE version of xinitrc..
Code:

#custom mouse buttom remap
xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"

Yes you can add it to xfce's xinitrc, and any other xinitrc you want, they'll basically do the same and xmodmap is X dependant, nothing to do with the Window Manager.

And also, I have tried looking everywhere in the XFCE options so I can change the resolution to 1024x768@100Hz but couldn't, and so I was stuck with an 800x600 screen that obviously was not centered.

The resolution also depends on X, not the Window Manager.

This may be a silly question, but have you tried turning down the eye-candy? If you recall. KDE's configuration wizard has a page that allows you to turn adjust the amount of "special effects" to a level suitable for your CPU.

Also, one note, recompiling Slack that way may sound like an interesting project, but it seems to me by the time you finish, months may have gone by, and so I don't see the practicality of that. I am sure there must be a faster way to rebuild Slack if thats really what you want, but I really don't know, and just don't see any real advantage to that.

you have to use some modeline generation script, and paste modeline result line in your xorg.conf file.
for example utility gtf>
do >
$ gtf 1024 768 100 gives -x
it gives me result like that>
# 1024x768 @ 100.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 81.40 kHz; pclk: 113.31 MHz
Modeline "1024x768_100.00" 113.31 1024 1096 1208 1392 768 769 772 814 -HSync +Vsync
use it and find resolution you need, insert it to conf. there after you have to restart X.
now you can choose 100Hz on any window-manager you use, but 100Hz will be not default one.
but you must know your monitor limits well.

Thanks, gbonvehi.

Does anybody know of the document where described the order in which Linux libs/apps should be built?

Thanks.
