compiling XFCE

I'm going to compile XFCE and was looking through the guide here

I couldn't find anything via slackpkg or sbopkg to suggest that Slackware has pkgconfig and coffee - can I proceed without these packages? Or do they have another name in Slackware?

Thanks as ever

Perhaps you need to look at

XFCE is part of Slackware. If you want the latest version (4.10) then you can wait until the release of Slackware 14 which will ship with that version of XFCE.

Thanks Eric. I was looking at 4.10 and am using 14/current.

I'll look at your script - it looks like a fairly tedious process and part of the exercise for me was to work out how it might be automated.

I built xfce4-4.10 (up to thunar on that same page you linked) in the past, also on -current before it was added to -current. It worked fine.

If you read the list of what to build, you'll see two things:

1. pkgconfig is only used by xfce4-dev-tools, which isn't required for the other packages.
2. coffee is not a dependency for any of those packages

I'm not sure what each one does either, but I recall I built it without reading the "Build requirements" section because Slackware had Xfce and so I assumed all the "Build requirements" were already met, hehe.
