Compiling issues Ive never seen before. Any ideas?

Hey guys. Im running Slack 10 and Im trying to install the latest version of K3b and I unzipped it and did a su root and ./configure, but this is what I got

checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

Ive never seen this before and everything else I have installed gave me no problems. Any ideas what this means and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Did you search in LQ? Because i've found a few topics relating to that same error, but slightly different depending on what they're trying to compile.
