Compiling a Kernel
 

I recently took a look at what was now available out there.

I test drove:

Ubuntu
Gentoo
Archlinux

What a waste!

These people keep saying that Slackware does not solve the dependencies.
But look at the logistics hassle they create in trying to solve them.
The complexities involved by far outweighs the benefits.
I personnaly never experienced any problem of dependencies with Slackware that I cannot solve in more than 5 minutes.

Now for those who think that compiling a kernel is a daring task, let them consider qconf (make xconfig while in KDE) and KDE's Control Center "Boot Manager".

With these tools anyone can configure, compile a kernel, and run a new system in 20 minutes...with Slackware!

So I am very happy to be a Slackware user.

Slackware is the greatest distro available!

Let me second that ... what could be easier than Slackware?

The only requirement is reading to learn new terminology.

I would agree with the above, however we aren't helping at all with our friends at Ubuntu or Gentoo or X. In all reality, this post should be somewhere else, with a laundry list of reasons. It doesn't do the other distros any good if we hoard all of the reasons why we like slackware over them in this forum. They need the ability to improve too.

With that said, If someone were to go and do that, I don't know how much that would really work. The only reason why there are so many distros is because they just plain out have a different view on things. However, if they are experiencing dependency problems, we can sure offer solutions that DO work.

Just a thought.
