Compile errors installing faad2

I am trying to install faad2 (for MPEG4 audio support on a few movie files), and I keep getting a compile error (these audio.c and audio.o files are in the "frontend" directory).

Code:
audio.c: In function `open_audio_file':
audio.c:55: structure has no member named `samples'
make[1]: *** [audio.o] Error 1
I DO have libsndfile installed, version 1.0.5 (the one they include in case you don't have libsndfile is 1.0.1rc2, but I didn't install it since I got a newer version).
