CLI password
 

I like to log into my pc using the terminal. I like a login on GUI because each character typed for a password is represented by *....how would I have a login terminal represent each password character with a *?

I think it is a security thing, so someone reading your screen (like over your shoulder) can
not guess your password with counting the number of characters...

However you could uncomment this line in /etc/login.defs, near the end of file :
#GETPASS_ASTERISKS 1

I was wondering about this. thanks for clearing it up. reading login.defs for the first time was very helpful as well.
