CinelerraCV and Slackware

I watched the packages of the program Cinelerra for Slackware and SalixOS (slack-based distr).

14.1

http://ftp.belnet.be/salixos.org/sbo...dia/cinelerra/
http://repository.slacky.eu/slackwar.../20131228/src/
http://ponce.cc/slackware/sources/re...-cv_2.2.tar.xz

All of these packages are compiled on the basis of this git
http://git.cinelerra.org/gitweb?p=j6....git;a=summary

But in this git last change from Mon, 14 Nov 2011
Сurrently it is no longer official git.

Official git Cinelerra community is this

if you have a look at the history of the git repository you linked

http://git.cinelerra.org/gitweb?p=Ci...git;a=shortlog

you can see that after the release of version 2.2 (that corresponds at the latest commit of 2011-11-13) there have been just a bunch of more commits.

if you need the latest cinelerra from git for some particular reason shouldn't be too difficult to build.

IMO cinelerra is resource hungry , not stable and not intuitive .
So I liked this program.

Best..

Certainly, slack-users, as a rule, users independent. And of course they can independently compile the necessary package.
But if there are ready-made packages, why not collect them, taking into account relevant bug fixes?
I do not understand why the packages maintainers for Slackware ignore bugfix in the official git.
Ubuntu packages for example compiled from official git and regularly updated to reflect the changes.

It stereotypes that come from the past of this program. The program currently works not worse than her colleagues.
Though of course there are serious bugs. But, where they do not exist ? This is very interesting, powerful program. It has a well-ordered interface. Just did not forget that this program of professional level ..
Program Openshot with all due respect - is a program for children.
;-D

if you're talking about my repository (also if you have linked the git snapshot of the sources that I'm hosting) I think you got it wrong: those are packages I build for my own use, they are not by any chance official.
then, I'm not the maintainer for the cinelerra Slackware's build script/package: you linked also the one from SBo (and you can see who is the maintainer) and the one from slacky (also there is noted who is maintaining it).

do you know that Ubuntu has a number of package maintainers of many digits greater than the one of Slackware?

I know but remember professionals built the Titanic, and amateur Ark :-)

In my amateur computer this "Titanic" refused to work with many segfauls so I say goodbye with no regret.
and I must say children are creative so Openshot suits to me and never ever refused to work.
MAking films are like taking photographs. Professional equipment is not necessary to do a good picture, although desirable.

Best ...

The best one I've found, personally, is kdenlive. It's great for what you should be using an NLE for, which is cuts and transitions. If you need motion graphics or compositing, then add Blender.

Back when I was playtesting NLEs, which was a few years ago, OpenShot didn't allow the level of zoom-the-timeline-precision that kdenlive did, and it didn't show audio waveforms like kdenlive did.

:-) Thank you, ponce, for the clarification and links.
I wrote a letter to Giovanne Castro (maintainer slackbuild) and got the answer:

Sorry, but I'm inactive on slackware awhile. If you want, you can take over the maintenance of this SlackBuild, ok?
It was some time ago. But in December, he again compiled package for 14.1. But used the old git.
I will send a letter also for Loris Vincenzi (slacky.eu)

I read your article where you wrote about Cinelerre. Do you work with her?

In me amateur computer (with ubuntu 10.10) all branches of the program are working properly:
Einar Runkaru experimental branch
Monty's branch
Cinecutie and package CinelerraCV from launchpad

As one system contains the whole zoo ? I use xstow

TommyC7 01-09-2014 05:25 AM

I thought Ubuntu had used the non-community version of Cinelerra if I'm not mistaken.

SlackBuilds.org offers only build scripts, not packages.

I wrote that somewhere between 5 and 10 years ago. Kdenlive and OpenShot weren't available back then, and Blender didn't have a compositor.

Also, I'm not sure what "Do you work with her?" means. If you mean "have I ever worked professionally with Cinelerra", the answer is no. "Do I use Cinelerra for anything these days?" Also no.

Yes, my mistake.I write through the translator. I meant slakbild package. Вuild script with old git. Basically, the address can be changed.
But I do not know how successful will this compilation.

ponce 01-09-2014 04:01 PM

if you want to take over the maintenance of cinelerra on SBo (as Giovanne offered) you have to follow strictly the guidelines or your submission will be most likely rejected: as you will do a script that will build a git snapshot you will have to self host the tarball somewhere.

and before submitting, test the build script on i486 and x86_64 and be sure that it works as the version we have now.

No. I am new at Slack-based and I do not possess sufficient qualifications.
