Chrome - 24.0.1312.52 bookmark icons randomly disappearing in Slackware 14.0

Slackware 14.0, 32-bit, regularly updated.
Chrome Version 24.0.1312.52, built using slackbuild provided in /extra (with google-pam-solibs of course)

Issue :

The bookmark icons and other general icons in Chrome are starting to disappear randomly. Sometimes the icons reappear after a pause or a mouse movement, sometimes don't. Please see the screenshots attached :-

When I start Chrome -
Attachment 11796

After opening some bookmark -
Attachment 11797

Same issue reproduces when I move back and forth to opened tabs. The only thing I observed is, the issue appears if Chrome is up for a long, i.e. a day or so. But that's not really long.

so far I've tried removing .kde and reconfiguring, rebooting and restarting X. Chrome works fine for some time (a day) after that. But then the issue reappears.
I've also tried changing themes; classical and GTK, issue reproduces in both.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Never had this issue with Chrome or Chromium. I started using Chromium more often. Here's a newer build for Chromium 32 bit.

Thanks for the link but I'd rather not upgrade Chrome without doing an RCA. I had the same issue with Chrome 21.x build too, so I doubt upgrading will solve this.
For the moment, I chose XRender compositing instead of openGL as I think openGL may be a potential suspect.

Regards.

I'm totally frustrated now. The issue still remains the same. I've used 3 builds of Chrome with the same issue.
Actually when the issue appears, it occurs for all the gtk+ apps. At the same time, the xfce terminal icons were also broken. I don't know what's causing this. I may try to dig in deeper once I have the time.
Meanwhile, if anybody has some pointers, I'll appreciate that.

Regards.

Is it possible that you've got some stale icon-theme.cache files under /usr/share/icons/? It's the official policy of Slackware not to create these as it leads to problems if they aren't frequently updated afterwards, but commands to create them have slipped into -current before, and occasionally they can be found in the install scripts for various independently created packages and build scripts. Take a look, and if you see any delete them.

Hello Pat! No, there are no .cache files in /usr/share/icons. These are the files present there :-

Quote:
bash-4.2$ ls -al

drwxr-xr-x 226 root root 4096 Feb 16 16:57 ..

drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 4096 Oct 1 08:57 oxygen
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 8 Nov 14 2010 redglass
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 8 Nov 14 2010 whiteglass

All the GTK+ apps go kaput at the same time, that's what I observed so far. Nothing in logs that I could analyze.

I have only installed couple of extra packages from SBo and Alien's repo, no exotic third party applications so far.

Regards.

Of all the things I've observed, it's not just a Chrome/Chromium issue.
I have to restart the X server every 4-5 days or so, otherwise the GTK+ apps' icons would get distorted. I found nothing solid so far to start the investigation. Searching for similar issue yielded nothing useful so far. But I'm not going to give up on Slackware.
There are no app crashes so far.

For what it's worth, I've started seeing the warning when I do 'su -' :-

Quote:
cruise@pinguslack:/home/princy/c_programs$ su -
Password:

patent:
A method of publicizing inventions so others can copy them.

Directory '/root/.local/share/mime/packages' does not exist!
I'm not really sure if that has something to do with this issue. I see couple of other old thread like this :-

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...estion-923874/

If anybody has some clue, please let me know.

Thanks.

I might also be seeing some signs of this anomaly. Haven't analyzed it much yet but.. just thought I'd mention.

Okay. So situation just got worse. At the time of Google-Chrome icons' crashing, Okular and Konsole's icons also got distorted and I had to again restart X to revert back to normal.
System logs are normal. I'm not sure where else I should look to get some hints.

Any pointers are welcome. Its getting really annoying now.

Regards.
