checkinstall

Hey folks,

I can't find it - isn't there a checkinstall switch for not installing the finished .tgz package?

I know if you don't add anything, it defualts to 'make install', but I don't want to install, just
make the tgz.

Hi tw001_tw,

If I got you right, you're trying to build a package. A guide for building Slackware packages can be found at http://www.linuxpackages.net/howto.p...=Package+Howto.
To answer your question, the command for just building a *tgz package is makepkg. See manpages for details :-)

He is already using checkinstall to create the package, but doesn't want it to be automatically installed after creation.

try slacktrack. I think you can get the package from extra directory.

for a time I was using a test version of checkinstall (checkinstall-1.6.0-test3 I think) before I reverted to the version installed as part of slackware.

The test version didn't install by default, it just built the package.

/usr/sbin/checkinstall can be edited i guess.
the " installpkg" -command is used in lines 1433-1470.

i think if you comment those lines out ( and echo some text to say " skipping install " )
it should work.
though i didn't try it ( yet ) ...
