checking mail in slackware after installation

When i installed slack and logged in for the first time, a message said that I had mail. I had not setup a mail account so I assume this is some internal message. How do I check this mail?

just type mail to check your mail. Those messages are internal log messges, and a welcome message from the slackware team.

Yup. I just recently started checking it, only once and a while. Comes in handy for my school webserver to tell when people have tried to login as root (and failed) :-D
