Change resolution
 
I need to change my resolution, right now its stuck on 1024x768 with 61 for refresh rate and its so annoying everything is huge. I need at least 1152x864 to stay sane. I know I have to edit my xorg.conf file somehow I did and I added the 1152x864 resolution in there but my highest option is still 1024x768. Heres that part of my xorg.conf file:

As you can see I added 1152x864 but still my highest option is 1024x768.....

have you tried 1280x1024 ?

Yes, no matter what resolution I put in the highest I can still get is 1024x768. In RH9 I had a resolution of 1600x(something) this is just so annoying!

Check you monitor frequency/refresh setings. (same file)

Which values need to be changed? I know the actual values are monitor specific, but which sections would I change?

I am having this same problem on my laptop. I've gone through the Xorg.conf file and changed the resolutions (just like dx0r515t did), and I also tried changing the HorizSync and VertRefresh values (I don't know the values, but I increased the ranges). I also attempted removing all of the other resolution possibilities.

Even though the only option left on the list is 1280x800 it still only allows me to have 1024x786 or lower. I know that this resolution works on the laptop because it is dual boot with Windows XP and that is what I am running on it.

Can someone help with some other changes that could be causing this or with finding out the correct HorizSync and VertRefresh values? I ordered my laptop from www.ibuypower.com and I looked on their site, but I couldn't find anything other than the max resolution.

Edit: (oh yeah, I didn't mention that it is a widescreen monitor, so everything is stretched... caused by the resolution.)

well...i think you need to fill-in the correct values for your laptop-screen.
check the website of the manufacturer for the specs.

Thanks, I checked there, but couldn't find those values. If I e-mailed tech support, do you think they'd be able to provide them?

Also, does slackware even allow widescreen resolutions? I just ran xorgconfig again and all of them were standard aspect ratio resolutions. I didn't see any widescreen options available.

The xorg.conf file is for mandrake, but it works great with Slackware anyway.

Here's my xorg.conf file now with the corrections made to allow for the 1280x800 resolution:
