take a look at the CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT.
There it says:

The version of Xorg in Slackware 13.37 will not (in most cases) require an
  /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.  Input hotplugging is no longer done using hal;
  instead, it now uses udev for input device detection and keyboard mapping.
    * 90-keyboard-layout.conf
        this sample ("normal" en layout) keeps the "old" default of
        allowing Zap'ing the Xserver.
  If you need to modify any of these defaults, then copy the relevant file
  from /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and edit the

So just copy /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-keyboard-layout.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-keyboard-layout.conf and edit the keyboad layout!

Hope I could help you:)

If you have installation disk near you, you can read CHANGES_AND_HINTS.txt file. There is part which touches your question: search for /etc/X11/xorg.conf in text(cut - oops, that was unrelated).
Also you can achieve same result running xorgsetup in console - a few simple dialogs will help you to do some X configuration, including keyboard layout.
Another way: if you using xfce or kde, you can run their setting manager, which allows to setup keyboard layout on fly.

You should read slackbook(provided with installtion), it can give you a lot of answers.
