Cfdisk doesn't make a hdb1 on Slack10 install, goes straight to hdb2

Hiya,

Sorry if the subject doesn't make any sense. Anyway during the Slackware 10 install i used cfdisk to partition my second harddrive for linux I noticed when i made the swap and / partition that it did not make the / partition hdb1 rather it made it hdb2. The swap is hdb5 which i'm not sure really matters.

Why is there no hdb1 and will this cause a problem in the future? For some reason it just seems like something is a little off here.

Thanks in advace and sorry if i'm making a big deal out of nothing lol, I tend to do that somtimes

During the install or after i'm done installing?

Either way it has to wait as it seems my second disk is scratched and I got stuck doing something on Windows.

Sorry about the delay, I can't really copy paste the results of fdisk -l /dev/hdb but i'll sum them up

Device Boot Start End System
/dev/hdb1 1 31 Extended
/dev/hdb2 * 32 1244 Linux
/dev/hdb5 1 31 Linux Swap

Ohh so there is a hdb1, why couldn't i see it and how do i get rid of it? I don't recall making any and it doesn't show up when i cfdisk /dev/hdb.

Hmm that looks junky...looked better when i made it now its all crunched up...

so, there is a hdb1, it's ' extended ; to use it you'll have to make 1 or more logical stations .
you can use fdisk or cfdisk to do that.

hmm apparently cfdisk wasn't showing hdb1. I fdisk'd hdb and was able to delete the mysterious hdb1, i think it all looks good now.

Edit hmm nevermind i seem to have confused myself into oblivion, i'll just keep it as it is lol. i got rid of all the partitions but as soon as a i make the logical swap partition (hdb5) it seems to make an extended hdb1 i can't see so the next partition i make (/) is hdb2. Still it annoys me lol.

well...if you remove the hdb1(ext.) with fdisk, then you should make a primary partition there , that should be hdb1. ( it's confusing, i know..)

if you make a logical station, an ext. part. will be made ( auto), to
keep your logical station in...
( but i don't see no prob's in what you've got, it just looks ''different '') :-)
