it's sata.i and what sata controller do you have?

just a check... you are typing
Code:

fdisk /dev/sdb
right? or sda/sdc/sdd depending where your sata disk is on?

I dont know if im using any controller im using an socket939 board they support sata naturally, do you those controllers you buy in stores when you dont have native sata support?

no iv never done that i always just type cfdisk and it works :S
but okay il try cfdisk /dev/sda/b/c etc

thanks

i`m having a similar problem:

im using via VT8237 that supports sata (motherboard via kt600-a).

I've enabled sata support in my kernel (2.6.11.11) and when i insert the module sata_via, the dmesg information shows that it successfully found and identified my sata disk, but there were no /dev devices created.. No /dev/sd* at all.

And the output of procinfo -m doesn't list sata devices at all as char nor block devices.. do i have to create the device w/ mknod?

thanks,
JC
