so its like its there.. but where?
any pointers?
there is no /dev/hd* , /dev/cdr* , or /dev/sc* right now. this drive worked fine with a bigger (everything compiled in ) kernel.

so it would be fantastic if anyone has ANY ideas from this.. ? the biggest difference I notice is that with my previous kernel the E-IDE driver was apparently used? I'll try re-compiling I guess.
here I go answering my own question, and asking another.
what I did:
1. kernel
Code:
<M> ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support --->
<M> Enhanced IDE/MFM/RLL disk/cdrom/tape/floppy support
<M> Include IDE/ATA-2 DISK support [*] IDE ACPI support[*] PNP EIDE support[*] PCI IDE chipset support
<M> Generic PCI IDE Chipset Support[*] Generic PCI bus-master DMA support
SCSI device support --->
<*> SCSI disk support
<*> SCSI CDROM support
<*> SCSI generic support
<*> Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers --->
<*> Intel ESB, ICH, PIIX3, PIIX4 PATA/SATA support
<M> Intel PATA MPIIX support
<M> Intel PATA old PIIX support
I'm not certain that the SCSI CD support is required built in, perhaps I'll try as a module later.
