cdrecord and stock Slack9 kernel

What do I have to do to the stock Slack9 kernel to get cdrecord working?

when I execute cdrecord -scanbus it tells me it can't open any pg* device.

You need to have ide-scsi (scsi emulation). The stock kernel probably has this, so add somewhere in lilo (either at top or under image = /boot/****) append="hd**=ide-scsi" and then /sbin/lilo and reboot.

Then try cdrecord --scanbus again.
